Another confirmation that future’s video editing will open up incredible solutions is presented by the University of Washington: Spacetime Fusion
The new idea is using photographs to enhance the depth of information of videos. This opens up some new possibilities, and seems to make some well known routines much easier:

The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal
Friday, 6. April 2007

I recently tumbled over an interesting (and artistical) documentary which deals with the removal of graffiti by overpainting them. This seems to be a big thing in the USA, especially in Portland - I’ve not yet recognized something like that in this dimension in Europe.
The Movie is directed by Matt McCormick and spoken by the gorgeous Miranda July*. So, if you wonder where to get it, have a look at this great blog.

passing time (more updates)
Sunday, 18. March 2007

Photography seems to be the perfect medium for documenting the passing of time. Some examples:

Very nice: “In the meantime” by Alexandra Hager.

older posts
5. Noah Kalina also does it. Everyday. The first six (depressed?) years: Link

4. Awesome, c71123 made a video out of 8 years of his life.

3. Age-Maps by Bobby Neel Adams.

2. Another video, also dealing with this topic: Link

1. I just found a website which reminded me of a video I saw a few months ago at habedieehre (see below). The project “zwanzig-vierzig” from Michael Harms shows the passed time in a, for me, very emotional way. As you can already guess from the title, he made a photo from his friends when they were 20 years old, and one when they were 40. An impressive persistent work. And here the work by ahreelee: Link

info motiongraphics
Friday, 2. February 2007

Having a look at the last few months, there seems to be a trend towards informational motiongraphics with social or political topics. I like it this genre until know, because most of them are very lovely designed and animated. To name some examples:

_ Ozan Halici and Jürgen Mayer from the University of Applied Sciences Ulm/Germany dealt with the power of Google in their bachelor thesis, and visualized it in a nice way: “Masterplan - about the power of Google

_ Clemens Kogler from Linz/Austria also seems to have an affinity to this kind of projects, like his Filmriss winning video “Arbeit2.0” and his newest work “Le grand Content” shows.

commercials inspired by gondry
Thursday, 1. February 2007

update:
I found a second commercial, dealing with the same principle:

old post:
This Talk Talk commercial is being praised for the good idea. I also like it:
But it’s obviously not the idea from the agency Clemmow Hornby Inge or from the director David Frankham, but from the director icon Michel Gondry.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the conversion from Talk Talk. The choreography is even better, but I think that the source of inspiration should be mentioned.
